CO-OP 2008-2009 Court / Class

Our Homeschool Co-op did many fun and exciting things during the 08-09 school year...and educational too, here's just a glimpse.

APRIL 14, 2009
Took a tour of the Antelope Valley Courthouse in Lancaster
We were able to visit Judge Carlos Chung darkened (a court term for no trials in session)
his court rooms and gave us a fantastic tour.
We got to sit in on a case in which a young girl was sentenced to 7 years for theft.
This made Wyatt and Lukas very sad!
The judge then darkened his court room and explained the judicial process to the kids in a very elementary way!!! He allowed the kids to sit in each of the area's of his courtroom, as Jurors, Witness' and the Judges chair!
The bailiff showed us his gear and explained his job. He then arrested some of the kids.
He took the kids to the holding chamber and locked them up.
The kids agreed they didn't want to go to jail because they didn't want to have to go to the bathroom in front of each other.
We then headed down to the preliminary trials to watch more action.
A sheriffs car was pulled up for us and allowed the kids to play it in.
Have you ever seen so many smiles in the BACK of a COP CAR???
Afterward we headed back into the judge's chambers for licorice, a great way to end the tour!
